ABOUT THE SERIES:

Raising her family in one of the fastest disappearing landmasses in the world, Heather Bird Harris’s work is a meditation on land loss, the illusion of human control, and mothering in the face of climate change.

Harris makes her paint from handfuls of local earth pigments including clay from her backyard, deconstructed brick, and wetland samples collected by a soil scientist to study the effectiveness of conservation strategies in Louisiana wetlands. Recreating geologic processes, she adds water and synthetic color and responds as the land breaks apart on the canvas.

Where the Water Goes explores our past and present relationship to land and water while celebrating the beauty accentuated by fear of loss - of home, of innocence, and of land into water.
